ABOUT Outpost Safaris in the Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari consist of over 360,000 square miles of fossil desert, the celebrated red sands sweep from horizon to horizon, stretching across Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. To the surprise of most visitors, the savannah supports abundant plant and animal life. The desert is alive with a wide variety of birds and game adapted to this harsh environment. Here, you can trade your daily commute for a ride on a game truck; your work environment for endless vistas; the streetlights for a river of stars in the sky and the evening traffic for the distant roar of the Kalahari lions. Outpost Safaris is located on over 40,000 acres where Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa meet, in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Here, you will be the guests of a family whose roots in the Kalahari are generations deep. Your hosts are truly unique and extremely hospitable, intent on making you feel at home and part of the family. Local lore explains that the hospitality of the people of the Kalahari is due to the fact they used to be very far and isolated from society in the olden days, and so any visitor to their paradise was as welcome as rain. Outpost Safaris welcomes private fly-in safaris as well as chartered fly-in safaris. We accommodate any aircraft up to twin turbines.

Our preferred charter company is Desert Air. You can make arrangements with them directly or leave it in our capable hands.

ACCOMMODATION in the Kalahari Desert

Outpost Safaris accommodation consists of two lodges, each with its own unique character and ambience to enhance your tailor-made safari experience.

EXCLUSIVE SAFARI LODGE
The lodge, comprised of four rooms with eight beds, is an impressive, exclusive, and comfortably elegant lodge with two bedrooms in the main complex and two nearby private double chalets overlooking a floodlit water hole and the border with Botswana in the distance.

The main building houses the dining room, view deck, lounge, and small pool with an open-air fire pit adjacent to the pool. From the high vantage point of the lodge, one has endless views over the Kalahari, and you will lose track of time as you witness the light play on the dunes.

OUTPOST SAFARIS CAMP
The camp, comprised of seven rooms with 14 beds, consists of a main cabin with two rooms, each with a private bathroom. A small kitchen serves the Lapa with a dining area, bar, open-air fire pit, barbeque and a jacuzzi all overlooking a floodlit water hole. There are also five double bungalows, each with a private bathroom. The safari camp is ideally suited for small groups, corporate break-away functions, private parties and small conferences.

The safari camp can also be booked as a self-catering facility.

SAFARI CAMP
Meals are buffet-style or a small set menu with lots of game – and truly Namibian specialties. Homegrown and homemade is the norm at Outpost, and a barbeque with Kalahari delicacies is a must.

Although you might have a special treat of a barbeque luncheon in the veldt, dinners are generally served in classic safari style, at a proper table with flickering candlelight and interesting conversation.
